Wanted: A Hero...

Job Description: A person who must stand up for those who cannot speak. A person who defends those that need defending. A person who will fight against insurmountable odds in order to do the right thing.

Salary: The admiration of some and the scorn of many.

Job Location: United States

Nemesis: Anyone who will say you should not be a hero.

Start date: Immediately

Fact of the Matter

The fact of the matter is that now, more than ever, we need heroes. Superman was once the man who said he would fight for truth, justice, and the American way. Now, the Man of Steel fights for truth, justice, and all that stuff. In the comic book world, super heroes must now out themselves since it seems all the good they do is now suspect to being evil. To add on to our woes, if you want to salute the flag or say the pledge, or at least honor the symbol of America, our flag, you got to make sure there isn’t a person with a match nearby.

What have we done to ourselves? Is there something wrong with having faith in your leaders? Is there something wrong with having good, moral, decent heroes? Must we have our icons be people who wear no clothes, talk about beating women, take drugs, kill in order to be cool?

It is times like these, especially on our day of Independence, when we need to remember our heroes of the past and have the heroes of the future step forward. If you CAN be a hero, then you MUST be a hero.
